GoRefer Autofill (Chrome extension)

Install the side panel, connect it to a supported tax product, and fill a client’s intake into a return without retyping it.

Verified September 5, 2026

What it does, and what it does not

The extension is a side panel that reads a client’s submitted GoRefer intake and types it into the professional tax software already open in the tab. It is an accelerator for data entry, not a filing tool: it never submits a return, never e-files, and never signs anything.

It is a beta product. Every value it writes is the preparer’s responsibility to review before the return is filed, exactly as if it had been typed by hand.

  • Supported software: OLT Pro, TaxSlayer Pro Online, and TaxSlayer Pro Web. Anything else needs an explicit per-site grant from the preparer.
  • The panel will stop rather than guess. A field it cannot place with confidence is reported as manual work instead of being written somewhere plausible.
  • It refuses to act on an e-file, payment, or signature screen.
  • Every fill can be undone from the panel while the page is still open.

Install and sign in

The panel signs in with the preparer’s own GoRefer account, so it shows exactly the clients that preparer is already assigned. There is no separate extension login to manage.

  1. Install GoRefer Autofill from the Chrome Web Store. Chrome 116 or newer is required.

  2. Open the side panel from the toolbar icon, or press Ctrl+Shift+G (Command+Shift+G on a Mac).

  3. Sign in with the same GoRefer credentials used for the web app, including two-factor if the firm requires it. The session lasts 24 hours and then asks again.

  4. Open your tax software in another tab. The panel detects the product and shows which client it is ready to fill.

Fill a return

Work one screen at a time and review as you go. The panel is designed to be interrupted — stopping mid-run leaves the return exactly as the last verified write left it.

  1. Pick the client in the panel. The panel shows the intake year it is about to use — change it there if the return on screen is for a different year.

  2. Review the intake summary. Sensitive values stay masked until you reveal them, and revealing them asks you to confirm your password.

  3. Press Start Autofill. The panel fills the page you are on, proves each write by reading it back, and reports anything it could not place.

  4. Check the page against the summary, then let the panel advance to the next screen or move on yourself.

  5. If something lands wrong, press Undo before navigating away.

Tax software we do not ship support for

Firms running white-labelled or self-hosted tax products can point the extension at their own domain. The panel asks Chrome for permission to that one origin and remembers it.

  • The grant is per origin, asked for by Chrome itself, and revocable from Chrome’s extension settings at any time.
  • On an unrecognised site the panel offers to identify the product; if it cannot, you can tell it which of the supported products the site is.
  • Coverage on an unshipped product is best-effort. Expect more fields reported as manual work.

Troubleshooting

Most reports resolve to one of these. The panel footer shows the extension version — include it in any support request.

  • Panel is blank or stuck on a spinner: close and reopen it. If it persists, sign out and back in — the 24-hour session may have lapsed.
  • “Start Autofill” is disabled: the client has no submitted intake for the selected year, or the firm is out of GIO credits. The panel says which.
  • Nothing happens on the page: confirm the tab is a supported product and that the panel shows it as detected. A site that needed a grant shows a prompt instead.
  • Fields filled on the wrong screen: press Undo and report it. Include the product, the page name, and the field.
  • Keyboard shortcut does nothing: another extension may have claimed Ctrl+Shift+G. Reassign it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
